How it started
Chopshaven began in 2019, not as a restaurant, but as a promise: that anyone in Saint John craving the real taste of home could have it, made fresh and made right. What started as a small catering operation — feeding weddings, birthdays, and Sunday gatherings across the city — grew into something bigger as word spread. People didn’t just want the food for one night. They wanted it every week.
What we serve
Every dish at Chopshaven is rooted in West African tradition and made with the same care you’d find in a family kitchen. Jollof rice simmered low and slow. Egusi rich with melon seed and leafy greens. Pounded yam, eba, and amala pressed fresh to order. Small chops crisped to perfection. Nothing shortcut, nothing rushed — just bold, honest flavor plated the way it’s meant to be.
More than a meal
Chopshaven is a gathering place as much as it is a restaurant. We built this space so that first-time guests and lifelong regulars alike can pull up a chair, share a plate, and feel the warmth of African hospitality — no matter where they’re from. Good food, good company, great vibes: that’s the whole idea.
Come hungry, stay for the vibe, and taste why our neighbors keep coming back.
